Brisbane catalytic converter buyers who collect from your workshop
Forge Recyclers buys used catalytic converters for recycling from the businesses that remove them. Mechanics, exhaust and muffler shops, wrecking yards and fleet workshops all end up with scrap catalytic converters. Instead of letting them pile up out the back, send us photos and the codes. We reply with a free quote, with no obligation to sell, then collect from your site.
We buy across Brisbane and South East Queensland. One pick-up can take the converters together with the rest of your scrap, such as radiators, car batteries and steel offcuts.
Types of catalytic converters we buy
Factory converters
The converters fitted when the car, ute, 4WD or van was built. They usually hold the most precious metal.
Aftermarket converters
Replacement units fitted after the original. They usually hold less metal, so they quote lower.
Large converters
Converters from trucks, buses and machinery, priced on photos the same way.
Mixed lots
A box, a bin or a pallet of mixed converters from a workshop clean-out, quoted in one go.
Why sell your catalytic converters to Forge Recyclers
- One converter or a stockpile. The quote box takes a whole lot in one go.
- Priced on the code stamped on each. Every model holds a different amount of precious metal, so each converter is quoted on its own code.
- Collected from your workshop or yard. Exhaust shops and wrecking yards don't drive them anywhere.
- A free quote, with no obligation to sell. Send photos and codes, and decide once you see the quote.
Catalytic converter scrap prices: what yours are worth
A catalytic converter's value comes from the platinum, palladium and rhodium coated inside it. Each model holds a different amount, so we price every converter on its type and the code on its shell. We check that against the metal market on the day we quote, which is why a price list for converters goes stale so fast.
That is why the code matters. A clear photo of it lets us quote one converter, or a hundred, without you driving anywhere.
Selling several converters at once
The process is the same for one catalytic converter or a hundred. The quote box takes a whole lot in one go. Enter how many you have, then add a line for each converter with its code. No code? Tick that you can't find it and add clean photos of that converter, and we identify it from those. Then press send.
Photos that help us quote
Catalytic converter recycling: where the metal goes
Inside each converter is a ceramic core coated with precious metals. Recyclers recover those metals so they can go into new converters and other products, which means less new mining. The steel shell is recycled as scrap steel. For a workshop, selling old parts for recycling is the simplest way to dispose of them: nothing goes to waste or landfill, and the parts you replaced earn money.
Catalytic converter pick-up from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast
We collect from workshops, exhaust shops and wrecking yards across Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, the Redlands, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. The areas we cover page lists the suburbs.
If converters come off cars at your workshop every week, ask about a regular pick-up. Businesses with other scrap can book it on the same trip, and our commercial scrap metal page explains how that works.

Scrap metals we buy alongside converters
Ferrous metals contain iron and non-ferrous metals don't. One pick-up can take both: tap a metal to see what we take.
Non-ferrous metals
No iron in them, so a magnet won't stick. They are worth more per kilo than steel.
Ferrous metals
Steel and iron, which a magnet sticks to, and stainless steel, an iron alloy graded on its own.
Mixed-metal items
Things made of more than one material, such as cable, motors and converters.
- Electrical cable
- Electric motors
- Radiators
- Batteries
- White goods
- Catalytic converters
What Forge Recyclers can't take
For safety, we can't take these, even mixed in with metal. Not sure about an item? Ask us before the pick-up.
- Asbestos
- Explosives and ammunition
- Fuel and other flammables
- Sealed gas cylinders
- Corrosive or poisonous chemicals
- Medical or biohazard waste
- Radioactive material
- Household rubbish

Questions about selling catalytic converters
How much is a scrap catalytic converter worth in Brisbane?
It depends on the converter. The value is in the platinum, palladium and rhodium inside, and the amount differs from model to model. Catalytic converter scrap prices also move with those metals. Send a clear photo of the code and the whole converter, and we will quote on that converter.
Can catalytic converters be recycled?
Yes. The precious metals inside are recovered and used again, and the steel shell is recycled too. That makes a recycler the right place for an old catalytic converter, not the bin. Sell yours to us and it goes into the recycling chain.
Where do I find the code on a catalytic converter?
It is stamped or printed on the converter's shell, sometimes on a heat shield. Rust can hide it, so a light clean with a wire brush helps. Take the photo in daylight, straight on and in focus. If the code is gone, tell us the vehicle it came from and send photos of both sides.
Do you buy aftermarket converters?
Yes. Aftermarket converters usually hold less precious metal than the ones fitted at the factory, so they quote lower. Send them with the rest of the lot and we will price each type.
Can I sell a box or a pallet of converters at once?
Yes. Enter how many you have in the quote form, then add a line for each converter with its code. If rust hides a code, tick that you can't find it and add photos of that converter instead. A photo of the whole lot helps too. We quote the lot in one reply.
Do you pick up converters from workshops?
Yes. We collect from workshops, exhaust shops and wrecking yards across Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. If you replace converters every week, ask about a regular pick-up.
What records should I keep when I sell a converter?
Keep a record of where each one came from, such as the job card or the customer invoice. Converters are a known theft target, and Queensland has proposed tighter rules for them. Our guide to selling scrap in Queensland explains the current rules.
