Stacked bales of compressed aluminium scrap

Selling scrap metal without leaving your site

Selling scrap metal to Forge Recyclers is straightforward, and you never have to leave your site. Send us photos and a few details, we reply with a quote, and if you are happy with it we come and collect. Here is how to sell scrap metal in Brisbane with us, step by step. The whole process happens on your phone and at your site: no ute or trailer required, and no bringing anything to a yard.

Before you start: sorting helps

We accept mixed piles, but a few minutes of sorting gives you a more accurate quote and a better grade. The biggest factor in the price is the metal itself, and a magnet is the quickest way to sort it. Ferrous scrap, steel and iron, sticks to it, because it contains iron.

Non-ferrous metals such as copper, brass and aluminium don't stick, and nor do the common stainless grades. They are worth more per kilo. Put pipe, sheet, aluminium window frames and offcuts of each metal in their own pile. Remove steel screws and brackets when it's quick, and keep rubbish and other waste out.

A little cleaning often lifts the grade. For safety, leave heavy items where they are, even in a shed or a tight corner: a photo is enough.

Step 1: tell us what you have

Call us, or use the quote form on any page. Tell us what you have, the rough volume or weight, and your suburb. Bulk loads and single items both work. Add a few photos before you press send: the more we can see, the clearer the quote.

Photos that help us quote

Step 2: get your quote

We look at the metal, how clean it is and roughly how much there is, and we reply with a quote for the load. Old machines, frames and beams are fine: send a photo with a rough size. We price by the metal, its grade and the weight, and metal prices move with the current market, so we quote on the day. If something in the photos is hard to judge, or an item is unusual, we ask you about it before we quote. Our scrap metal prices page explains what lifts a price.

Step 3: we pick it up

If you accept the quote, we book a time and collect from your site. Tell us about anything that affects the pick-up, such as a locked gate, a loading dock or a site induction. We load the metal and pay you for it, and your team gets back to work.

Running a workshop or a busy site? Ask about regular business pick-ups, so scrap never piles up. Catalytic converters follow the same steps: see catalytic converters.

Ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal you can sell us

Ferrous metals contain iron and non-ferrous metals don't. One pick-up can take both: tap a metal to see what we take.

Non-ferrous metals

No iron in them, so a magnet won't stick. They are worth more per kilo than steel.

Ferrous metals

Steel and iron, which a magnet sticks to, and stainless steel, an iron alloy graded on its own.

Mixed-metal items

Things made of more than one material, such as cable, motors and converters.

What Forge Recyclers can't take

For safety, we can't take these, even mixed in with metal. Not sure about an item? Ask us before the pick-up.

  • Asbestos
  • Explosives and ammunition
  • Fuel and other flammables
  • Sealed gas cylinders
  • Corrosive or poisonous chemicals
  • Medical or biohazard waste
  • Radioactive material
  • Household rubbish

Questions about selling scrap metal in Brisbane

Do I need to sort my metal before I ask for a quote?

No. We take mixed loads. Sorting lifts the price, because clean, separated metal grades higher, so keep copper, brass and steel apart if you can.

Do I need photos?

Photos give you a clearer quote. Send a wide shot of the whole pile and close-ups of each metal. For catalytic converters, include the code stamped on each one.

How much is scrap metal per kg?

It depends on the metal and its grade. Non-ferrous metals such as copper and brass are worth far more per kilo than steel, and clean metal beats dirty metal. Prices move with the market, so we quote each load on the day from your photos.

Is the quote free?

Yes. Send the details and photos, and we reply with a quote. You decide whether to go ahead.

What can't you take?

Asbestos, explosives and ammunition, fuel and other flammables, sealed gas cylinders, corrosive or poisonous chemicals, medical waste, radioactive material and general rubbish. Tell us if you are unsure about an item.

Do you collect from homes?

Not at the moment. We collect from trades and businesses: workshops, factories, building and demolition sites, and trade businesses.
