Coils of insulated electrical cable beside a bundle of stripped copper wire

Brisbane scrap cable buyers who collect from your site

Every rewire, switchboard upgrade and strip-out leaves cable behind, and the copper inside is a non-ferrous metal with real value. Forge Recyclers buys scrap cable in Brisbane and across South East Queensland from electricians, data and solar installers, builders and demolition crews. We pick it up from your site. Send photos of the cable and we reply with a quote.

Why sell your scrap cable to Forge Recyclers

  • Priced on the copper inside. Heavy power cable carries more copper for its weight than thin data cable, and the quote reflects that.
  • Offcuts and drum ends collected from the job. Bags of cable leave your site without a trip to a yard.
  • A quote from photos of the cut ends. You see it before we collect anything.
  • Regular pick-ups on request. If cable piles up every week, ask about a regular pick-up.

Scrap cable prices in Brisbane: what your cable is worth

We price cable on the metal inside it and on its weight. Cable made for heavy power applications carries a lot of copper for its weight, while thin data cable is mostly plastic. Aluminium conductors grade below copper. Plugs, lugs and steel armour add weight but little value. Copper prices change daily, so we quote today's price when your photos come in.

To get more for your cable:

  • Keep copper cable, aluminium cable and data cable in separate bags.
  • Snip off plugs and lugs if you have a spare minute.
  • Coil or bundle long runs so they are easy to load.
  • Never burn off the insulation.

Who sells us scrap cable

Electricians end up with offcuts, drum ends and old cable from rewires and switchboard upgrades. Data, security and solar installers have leftover runs and pulled-out cable. Builders and demolition crews strip cable from buildings before a refit or a knock-down. Factories, workshops and other facilities replace power and control cable on machines.

Our tradies page covers electricians and installers. We also collect from demolition and site clearance jobs and from manufacturing and workshops.

Copper cable recycling in Brisbane

Recyclers chop scrap cable into small pieces and separate the copper from the plastic. Mills then melt the clean copper and draw it into new wire. The International Copper Association reported in 2017 that about 32% of the copper used each year came from recycled sources. Every bag of offcuts you sell adds to that, and it cuts the need to mine new copper. For an electrical business, cable that used to go in the skip becomes income, and it stays out of landfill.

Scrap cable pick-up from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast

We collect cable from job sites, depots and workshops from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast. Bags of offcuts can go on the same pick-up as your copper, steel and old motors. The process takes three steps: photos of the cut ends, a quote, then the pick-up. If cable piles up every week, ask about a regular pick-up. See scrap metal pick-up for how it works.

Three steps to sell your scrap cable

  1. Send photos and details

Call us, or use the quote form and add a few photos. Tell us what you have, roughly how much, and your suburb.

  2. Get your quote

We reply with a quote. If you are happy with it, we book the pick-up.

  3. We pick it up

We collect from your site and pay you for the metal.

Cable and the other scrap metals we buy

Ferrous metals contain iron and non-ferrous metals don't. One pick-up can take both: tap a metal to see what we take.

Non-ferrous metals

No iron in them, so a magnet won't stick. They are worth more per kilo than steel.

Ferrous metals

Steel and iron, which a magnet sticks to, and stainless steel, an iron alloy graded on its own.

Mixed-metal items

Things made of more than one material, such as cable, motors and converters.

What Forge Recyclers can't take

For safety, we can't take these, even mixed in with metal. Not sure about an item? Ask us before the pick-up.

  • Asbestos
  • Explosives and ammunition
  • Fuel and other flammables
  • Sealed gas cylinders
  • Corrosive or poisonous chemicals
  • Medical or biohazard waste
  • Radioactive material
  • Household rubbish

Questions about selling scrap cable

How much is scrap copper cable worth per kg?

It comes down to how much copper is inside, the weight, and the copper market on the day. A kilo of heavy power cable holds far more copper than a kilo of data cable, so it earns more. Send photos that show the cut ends and we quote today's price for the lot.

Do you buy scrap wire?

Yes. We buy bare copper wire, earth wire, stripped cable and offcuts of building wire. Bare, bright copper wire earns the most per kilo, so keep it in its own bag, away from insulated cable.

Does stripping cable pay?

Only for thick cable, and only with a proper stripping tool. Bare copper earns more per kilo, but thin or mixed cable takes too long to strip for the gain. We buy insulated cable as it comes, so ask us which way pays before you start.

Can you take cable straight out of a building?

We collect cable once it is out and dead. Wiring that is still part of a building or machine needs a licensed electrician to disconnect and remove it. After that, it is ready for pick-up.

Do you buy aluminium cable?

Yes. We grade it apart from copper cable, so keep the two in separate bags. Scrape a cut end to check: copper shows reddish, while aluminium is silver-grey and much lighter.

Can you collect cable offcuts every week?

Ask us about a regular pick-up. Electricians and data installers build up offcuts and drum ends on every job, and one trip can take the cable with your old motors and copper. We do not collect from homes at the moment.
