Sell your demolition scrap metal, collected from site

When a building comes down, its metal still has value. Forge Recyclers buys demolition scrap metal from demolition contractors and site clearance crews across Brisbane, and we collect it from site. Send photos of the stockpile, and we reply with a quote.

Scrap we collect from demolition jobs

Why demolition crews sell their scrap metal to Forge Recyclers

  • Salvage that earns. Steel, copper and aluminium from the job go to a buyer, not into a skip.
  • One buyer for every metal. Steel, copper, cable, aluminium and old plant go on one pick-up. Mixed loads welcome.
  • A quote before anything leaves. Photos of the stockpile get you a quote first, and you choose whether to go ahead.
  • Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast. We come to the job anywhere in that stretch, Ipswich and Logan included.

One-off clean-outs and regular pick-ups

Most demolition jobs need one clear-out at the end, as part of the site clean-up. On a big job, you can ask for a pick-up each time a stockpile builds. Contractors with several jobs running, or ongoing work, can ask about a regular pick-up across their sites. Each round follows the same process: photos of the stockpile, a quote, then the pick-up.

Responsible recycling for demolition metal

A knock-down leaves a lot of metal, and all of it can go back into use. Everything we collect goes on to metal recycling. Mills turn beams and rebar into new steel, and copper goes back into new wire and pipe. Recycled metal saves new mining and energy, which helps when a job reports on its environmental impact. It also keeps metal out of landfill. Pair us with your other recycling services: concrete, timber and green waste go their way, and the metal comes to us. That is responsible recycling that also pays.

Getting more for your demolition steel

We price each metal on its grade, its weight and the market on the day, so sorting pays. Non-ferrous copper and cable earn far more than ferrous steel, and clean metal grades higher than metal with concrete or timber on it. Photos of each sorted pile get you today's price for each one.

  • Pull copper, cable and aluminium out of the steel as it comes down.
  • Knock off concrete and timber where it comes away easily.
  • Ask us about lengths before you cut, and we'll say what suits the pick-up.
  • Keep metal roofing well apart from any sheeting that may contain asbestos. We don't take asbestos.

Copper from a strip-out earns the most, so see our copper page for the grades. For a building job that follows the knock-down, see construction scrap metal.

Ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal we buy from demolition crews

Ferrous metals contain iron and non-ferrous metals don't. One pick-up can take both: tap a metal to see what we take.

Non-ferrous metals

No iron in them, so a magnet won't stick. They are worth more per kilo than steel.

Ferrous metals

Steel and iron, which a magnet sticks to, and stainless steel, an iron alloy graded on its own.

Mixed-metal items

Things made of more than one material, such as cable, motors and converters.

What Forge Recyclers can't take

For safety, we can't take these, even mixed in with metal. Not sure about an item? Ask us before the pick-up.

  • Asbestos
  • Explosives and ammunition
  • Fuel and other flammables
  • Sealed gas cylinders
  • Corrosive or poisonous chemicals
  • Medical or biohazard waste
  • Radioactive material
  • Household rubbish

Questions about selling demolition scrap metal

How much do you get for demolition scrap metal?

It depends on what comes out of the building. Copper, brass and cable earn far more per kilo than steel. Clean metal grades higher than metal with concrete or timber attached, and prices follow the market on the day. Send photos of each stockpile and we reply with today's price.

Do you take metal that may contain asbestos?

No. We don't take asbestos or anything that may contain it. Keep suspect sheeting and lagging out of the metal, and have a licensed removalist deal with it.

How big a piece of steel can you take?

Send photos with rough sizes and weights of the biggest pieces. We tell you what we can take before the job, so you can cut to suit.

Can you clear the metal in stages on a big job?

Yes. Send photos as each stockpile builds, and we quote and collect each load. That stops steel piling up while the work goes on.

Do you buy old plant from a strip-out?

Yes. Motors, pumps, hot water cylinders, switchboards and other metal components are all scrap we buy. Drain water and oil first, and tell us what's in the pile.

Is it worth pulling the copper out before the steel goes?

Usually, yes. Copper and cable earn far more per kilo than steel, so stripping them out and keeping them apart lifts what the job earns.
